DAVID NIEUWOUDT OF CEDERBERG WINES evening tasting

Wednesday 15 May 2019

A fabulous and memorable evening with legendary wine man  David Nieuwoudt and his exceptional wines from the Cederberg, Ghost Corner and his Longavi Chilean wines along with the finest sushi by Nicola Chapman and team from Oh So Sushi!  David Nieuwoudt the current owner and wine maker at Cederberg is proudly fifth generation Nieuwoudt with the family inhabiting the Cederberg since the mid 1800’s. He is a member (by invitation only) of the highly esteemed Cape Wine makers guild.

In addition to making award-winning wines in the Cederberg, David  spotted the huge potential of Elim, a small and promising maritime region within the Cape Agulhas district, close to South Africa’s most southerly point The extreme and mysterious landscape at the southernmost tip of Africa has been the inspiration for the Ghost Corner wines.

Longavi wines is a collaboration between two friends from different continents, Chilean producer Julio Bouchon and South African winemaker David Nieuwoudt who teamed up in 2012 to produce wines in Chile’s Leyda Valley. Longaví means ‘snakes head’ derived from a stratovolcano called Nevado de Longavi and the vine wreath on the label denotes the Ourobos, an ancient African symbol that represents nature’s eternal cycle of renewal.

What a wonderful day at our Craft Beer, Wine and Gin Festival, held in collaboration with The Stable Winery on Saturday 17th September. Thank you to all involved in making the day such an amazing event, with special thanks to: The Stable Winery, the wine farms, breweries and Inverroche Gin for participating in the event and travelling all the way from the Cape, Rooneys Zimbabwe, Safeguard, GTAXI, fastjet Zimbabwe, Michele Fortmann Photography and The Photobooth Co. We had such an amazing and overwhelming response to the event, with tickets selling out within 7 days of releasing tickets to the public. Tickets to the event were limited to 500 guests on a first come first serve basis and no tickets were sold at the gate. We thank you all for the incredible support and we look forward to the next festival:) Photo Credits go to the lovely Michele Fortmann Photography.

2014 Festival ‘A French Affair’

The much-anticipated highlight on Harare calendars, The Stable Winery annual wine festival.  A day of celebrating and sampling the fine wines we represent and a chance to converse with our wine visitors from the Cape, the people behind the brands who congregate in Harare for this event.  Guests are presented with a banquet of fine food synonymous with fine wine. A highlight over the years being the ‘Champagne and Oyster’ tent with fresh Scottish oysters on ice washed down with crisp South-African MCC’s.  Over the years Stirling EQ, a highly talented string quartet known for changing the face of instrumental music in South Africa and beyond with their extraordinary fusion of virtuosity and fresh beats have literally silenced the crowd in awe as they took to the stage at dusk fall.  A worthy local charity has been selected each year and is a benefactor of the proceeds of a generous wine raffle drawn on the day. The Stable Winery Festival was the first wine and food event of this calibre in Zimbabwe and it is not without reason that tickets for this once released are sold out over days.
