In the spirit of the early explorers, Tormentoso seeks to discover unique parcels of grapes to make exciting, distinctive wines. Winemaker Riaan Möller continuously searches out pockets of excellence from among our growers’ finest vineyards in the Agter-Paarl – although sometimes his adventurous nature takes him further afield, e.g. Touriga Nacional and Cabernet Sauvignon from Stellenbosch.
Tormentoso is primarily focused on the wines of the Agter-Paarl. The vines grow in a dry area with little or no irrigation, but the rocky, fractured shale soils of the region allow the roots to penetrate deeply to get to the moisture reserves. A certain amount of struggle is endured to ripen the grapes, and it’s this torment that produces our distinctive wines with concentrated flavours and aromas.
